I spent my early childhood near the beach exploring tidepools in Scotland. My fascination with the ocean led to a fulfilling 32-year career as a professor of biology and marine science at Kutztown University of PA.

Relocating to coastal Washington brought back opportunities for frequent beachcombing excursions resulting in an ever-increasing collection of rocks, shells and other beach finds. Looking for additional ways to enjoy some of these special treasures, I discovered the arts of rock polishing and wire wrapping. This proved to be an excellent way to display and highlight the unique nature of these items.

Two years ago, I took a workshop on metal smithing that broadened the vision and skills that I bring to my art. Much of what I create still has a strong ocean influence, but I’m also able to create new patterns and designs that reflect my passions. In addition, I’ve recently incorporated upcycling worn out or discarded items into my work. This could be something as simple as using beads from broken bracelets in the creation of a new piece or as challenging as melting down aluminum cans to create lightweight earrings and other jewelry. I’m just starting this part of my journey and I’m excited to see where it leads! Feel free to follow along by checking my FB for updates.
